Reclaiming My “No”

Reclaiming My “No”

Lately, I’ve been spending my Sundays floating, and was an interesting float.  They all are, but my mind was wandering today.

I was reflecting on the past few weeks and where I’ve been… and I realized something startling.  I need to reclaim my NO.  It’s been missing, and when I’m most successful, I have my no handy.

Lately, I’ve been just going with the flow.  If you want me to do something, I’ll probably say yes.  If you order the buffalo kettle chips with bleu cheese, I’ll say I’m not going to have any, but I do.  And, if you offer me a slice of cake, it’s quite possible I’ll say yes.

You heard me, I’ve been saying YES to cake.  Now, we both know that a slice here or there is not the end of the world, but we also know that when if it becomes a habit, I’ll be shopping for larger pants real soon.

And, mostly… I just feel disconnected from who I am.  By saying no, we set boundaries, we establish preferences, and we stay true to who we are.

So… back to that float tank I was in a few hours ago, it ran through my head that I’ve been like a car out of control.  I’ve had a blast, but I’ve strayed from my goals significantly.  Those buffalo kettle chips are real (and something I snacked on Friday night at happy hour.)  You know, before I headed to an Italian restaurant for homemade spaghetti and meatballs.  Can you hear the no?  I can, perhaps even via song.

Now, sometimes it takes going off the tracks to get you right back where you need to be.  I’m home for the next two weeks, and I’m so focused on my goal of being healthier.

And, to make things easier:  I’m craving vegetables.  I’ve made a batch of watermelon gazpacho.  I’ve got chopped veggie salad in the fridge, and I’m roasting some cauliflower as I type.  My body is loudly shouting that it NEEEEEDS nutrients, and I’m taking no prisoners.  I’ve got a freezer full of Jenny Craig meals, and some amazing new recipes to share with y’all this week!

I’m also planning a Diet Bet for late June.  Have you ever done one of these?  I’d love for you to participate with me.  It’s going to be epic.

If your “no” has wandered off, I hope you too will invite it back.  Together, we can make some magic happen.
